 Thank you. I did:

% a2x --fop -f pdf article.txt

and actually got the document title without a page break.

But: I like the dblatex output much better. Is there no way to show the 
document title without a cover page?
Or: The section-titles are huge when using FOP. Is there a way to resize 
them? Are there any other (free available) stylesheets or themes?
