There is no such thing as a lines filter in asciidoc, that is why it doesn't work. I vaguely remember someone had an extension to do that, but I can't find a reference to it immediately, your googling might be better. Personally, when I needed to include snippets from source files a lot I used Python pre-processing to do the substitution before Asciidoc.
