I have a question about HubPress: Does it let GitHub convert AsciiDoc to
HTML? If so, then footnote links won't work and I won't want to use it.

That's one of the great things about HubPress.io. Although it uses GitHub
as the storage mechanism, it doesn't use GitHub for rendering. Instead, it
uses the full power of Asciidoctor to render the document, so you get all
the features of AsciiDoc you would expect.

That *is* a great thing! I'm still not sure I'll use it because ideally I'll choose something I can use both for blogging as well as non-GitHub-hosted web sites. I have web sites that desperately need to be updated from the 1990s.
