The separators are *defined by* or *recognised by* regexes, they are
not themselves regexes. The psv regex must also recognise the span
and align prefixes. The regexes are defined in the conf file (although
the default is hard coded).

Just FYI the default psv regex is:

((?<!\S)((?P<span>[\d.]+)(?P<op>[*+]))?(?P<align>[<\^>.]{,3})?(?P<style>[a-z])?)?\|

The table section of the conf file is not documented in section 26, so
that is either an oversight or an indication that you shouldn't change
them without knowing what you are doing because of the interaction
with the code. Probably both.

Cheers
