Hi Stephen,

your best options for now to understand what is being captured by pointcuts are 
the Eclipse AJDT tools. You can e.g. get a list of all source code locations 
affected by a pointut (i.e. join point shadows). There also is a basic 
visualization: the Aspect Visualization perspective. Such tool support makes a 
big difference when developing with Aspects and AJDT is your best bet right now.

On a side note, I am currently working on a new visualization, called 
AspectMaps ( http://pleiad.cl/aspectmaps ). It significantly improves on the 
AJDT visualization but sadly still is in the research prototype stage (for lack 
of developers...).
