They do get a salary of Rs. 12,000.00 a month - a meagre amount which doesn't even make it to the tax bracket in order for them to be bothered about paying income tax (assuming they would have paid if they had to), but also look at the benefits again below on the chart - very attractive!
Two crores of rupees per year for an MP's local area development fund? and still people are living without a community tube-well in their neighborhood, forget having one as their own. Where does this money go? well!

I consider it to be the case of Poor MP even
in Indian standard. Please note that in all of these, I don't see any monthly
salary for the MP himself except for the allowance during parliament session.
No wonder, there is corruption in India.I think we Indians think
beforehand that MP will use the public money given to him for his personal
expense.and therefore let us not give him any salary.
Let us see how much we want the MP to earn
by corrupt means:
Rs 14000 month for office expense = probably
he will need that, I don't think he can manage more than 5000 for his
own.
Rs 10000 allowance = may be he can squeeze
another 5000 a month by not visiting the constituency much. (Hobo
Diok).
So he earns about 10000 a month = $250 /
month
I think leaving aside his allowances, MP
should be given a Rs 20000/month ($500) salary.
And his constituency allowance should be
increased to Rs 100,000 / month.so that he cxan spend some
money.
That way we can attract some good people
into politics.. .

Do you really
think your MP is worth it? In a developing country like India,
being a Member of Parliament may be the best way to become rich,
based only on allowances and perks.
An Indian MP earns Rs 14,000 a month for
office expenses.
Monthly constituency allowance of Rs
10,000.
A daily allowance of Rs500 when
Parliament is in session.
Daily travel allowance of Rs 8/km.
Each MP and his/her spouse or companion
is entitled to unlimited free rail travel across the country.
They can also travel business class
anywhere in India with a spouse or companion 40 times, free of
cost.
A fully furnished bungalow maintained by
the government.
Free healthcare.
A hefty local area development fund
which does not go directly to the MPs bank account but to areas
where projects are being implemented.
