Shantikam-da,

So what did the Assamese speaking guy say?

*****In my opinion, the most sensible proposals in that meeting were made by the gentleman from the Kamrup Chamber of Commerce. Incidentally he was the only one to speak in Assamese in the meeting, every one else spoke in English. Since the press was not present in that meeting, what he said never got reported. He also did not submit a meorandum to the CM.

The CM called a meeting of some of the leading organisations in Guwahati for a pre-budget meeting where every body gave their ideas about how to raise revenue, generate employment and achieve development. I had the opportunity of attending the same. From the Govt, apart from the CM, Minister Shri Pradyut Bordoloi, the Additional Chief Secretary, the Finance Commissioner, The tax commissioner and others attended. What was heartening was that all the officials were taking copius notes during the meeting.

Most organisations submitted memorandum to the CM.

Later on , some of the associations also gave copies of the memorandums to the press and depending upon who had what influence on which paper, they were publicised.

What FINER, NECCI, ABITA or other organisations spoke had very little new things in them, it is basically repeatations of what has been spoken off ad infintum.

It is very easy to suggest cold storage in Assam without examining the linkages (both backward and forward) or the power position of the state (without stable and continuous power you cannot have cold starages). No one has even found out what has happened to the cold starages that were built over the last few decades. Yet we go on saying we should build cold storages.

Frankly, what NECCI (or for that matter, the other organisations like FINER, etc.) says, as per what has appeared in the press, is what an Eleventh Class student of Assam can write. There is no original suggestion in their memorandum.

Good demand , surprising the govt hasn't already got this in place--though in many places private companies set up their own and rent out the space to those who need them ---popular in areas which have no fruit or vegetables of their own --such as deserts of Rajasthan --where potatoes(?) and mangoes etc are kept for long.
