P.S.(After my earlier one)
Over the last 2 decades we saw Over-Hypes in Assam ,quietly whimpering to a 'Mew':
- Black Pepper(instead of or synergically with Paan Leaves)"Fantastic Export Prices"
- Cut Flowers forExport
- Vanilla
- Citronella Grass-Exracted Oil therefrom --RRL Jorhat was all agog!
- Xansii (Agar)
- Patchauli(Promoted mainly by same Ajmal Group and backed by NedFi)-fragrant herb
- Neem --Nagoan-minister Rockibul-- has been force-planted this year with 1 Lakh saplings
- Jatropha Biodiesel(Tomorrow Pres.Kalam Inaugurates" National Symposium" at Gau)
Lands shrinking fast to Barren rivers/Treeless Reserve Forests/Birdless Safe Sanctuaries/ Multilane SuperNational Highways/Stadia/Gas Cracker?/National Energy Complexes/Housing for Lakhs of Armed Forces and families-Schools /Encroachers/Urbanization/flyovers....................
And no thought on how to get the maximum out of Tea, Bamboo,Legumes,Grass (Saah,Baanh,Maah,Ghaanh) which we know GROWS well!

>A Mr. Patar in Nelly( Jagiroad) area told me about agarwood about 15 years back. Patar had started a nursary for agar plantation. He told me about the demand of agar mainly in the Middle-East, its export value and how soil in Assam is ideal for agar cultivation. Patar was associated with an NGO working in the Nelly/ Jagiroad area. They had also started a rubber plantation in the area. It would be interesting to follow up on what happened to Patars agar cultivation.I remember, Patars brother-in-law had a tea shop in Jagiroads market area - made very good tea!
