GUWAHATI, Dec 16 Echoing the approach of President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the
Governor today laid stress on popularising Muga outside the country. The
President during his latest visit to Sualkuchi had laid stress on making this
unique fabric popular across the globe. The Governor expressed the same view as
at meeting held by him with the senior officials of the departments concerned
and representatives of the NEDFi and the NIF at Raj Bhawan here. The meeting
was held to discuss the pilot project on the patented technology of mechanized
process for manufacturing Muga silk fabric.
According to Raj Bhawan sources, States Director and General Manager of
Industries promised in the meeting a site for the pilot project on the
mechanized process for Muga in the Kalapahar CITI complex here. The NEDFi has
also assured help to the project with required funds.
The meeting was also attended by States Secretary for Handloom, Textile and
Sericulture, Co-ordinator of the NIFs GIAN (NE) and Dulal Chowdhury, who has
secured a patent right on the technology in his name.
Secretary, Handloom, Textile and Sericulture offered to look after the
commercial prospects of the project. The participant officers also volunteered
services to popularise the new technology among the entrepreneurs of the State
and the NE region as well, said the sources.
