I think you are making such a big confusion of our communication by not
responding straight, that I think we need to chronicle our sayings.
    1) Originally you asked the question, why ULFA is killing people, and also
suggested that they were interested to have a separate nation which they want
to rule. You also asked for other opinion.
    2) In reply I showed the possible reasons why basically people kill people
bringing examples from ancient history to modern days killing. I also stated
that from these reasons, you may make your own judgment why ULFA is killing.
    3) Instead of choosing a reason, you asked me the question, "so is it ok?"

I donot know why you asked me that question. Probably you flotade the
question to get a certain type of response. M ay be I put you in a very
uncomfortable zone with my examples.
    4) I replied that your question implies that other killings cited by me are
ok according to you. Otherwise what your question "so it is ok" would mean? I
also told that I am against any type of killing, and asked your opinion.
    5) Instead of answering straight, you are changing the question 180 degrees
and saying that "punishing the culprit is good" (whatever that means). I think
you are trying to justify killing if it is for punishing a culprit. This
however does not explain why people kill innocent people.
Anyhow, before we confuse the readers, please clarify it that is what you
mean. If you say yes, my question would be which of the killings you would say
OK. Do you also support ULFA's killing, because as an extension of your logic
(killing to punish a culprit is good), ULFA may justify their killing.

Would appreciate if you would answer straight.
Or ask me question if you are in doubt.

      Rajen-da,

without reference to anything you said I say that punishing culptrits
(whoever they may be) is good. I squash cockroaches everyday in my kitchen and
used to swat mosquitoes in India when they bit me.

      Umesh
PS: I just wondered why u raised all these historical issues when
discussing a current problem of ULFA. Why not raise the issue of original sin
by Adam and Eve - if you feel like it? or of Thou Shalt not kill - Ten
Commandments

I may be weak in English, but did not know that I am that weak.
You asked why ULFA was killing.
I showed you how killings are going on in this world from ancient times
till now in front of your own eyes and why, and from that I asked you to make
your guess why ULFA is killing.
Nowhere did I say any of these these killings are OK.
In fact when you asked back, "so is it ok?', one would presume that you
think those other examples of killings are ok.
I never said any of those killings are OK.
I simply said that the world we live in a a 'killing field'.
In fact I am against any killing, I am against this 'killing field'.
I yet donot know if you are against all killings or you think some
killings are good like Indian army killing 50000 innocent Nagas or America
annihilating two cities.

Your question actually relate to a bigger and age old question,
why people kill people, especially innocent people. And it may surprise you,
but you actually know the answer. Only thing, you need to think deeply:

Let us take the case of the Mahabharata war which took place long
time ago and where thousands of innocent people from all over India were
killed.
Reason : The Pandavas wanted just Five villages.

Let us take the case of Germany which killed millions of Jews in
the second world war.
Reason: Belief that your own kind is superior and you need to
dominate the world with your people.

Let us take the case of USA bombing and annihilating millions of
innocent Japanese when they bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Reason: To scare the enemy to hell and bring them to submission.

Let us take the case of Iraq War where thousands of innocent
people are being killed every day.
Reason: USA to control the world key oil center and bring the
middle east to their control.

Let us take the case of Al Qaeda killing innocent people.
Reason: To scare the enemy to hell and submit and leave middle
east alone.

              ULFA killing innocent people.
Reason: You fill up the gap.

The world is a killing field, Umesh.

someone asked me over the phone why ULFA killing people.
I had no concrete reply --except that for some reason they want
to have a separate nation which they can rule.
                >>
Any further light on the issue?

                Umesh

PS: other issues which cropped up were Bangladeshi
infiltration, migration from other parts of India and lack of development
-after Indian independence thanks to cut off of trade routes -by creation of
East Pakistan (now Bangladesh)
