hello bora i was in singapore last fornight. singapore as such is a nice place, not very expensive, if you know the tricks. use MRT as much as possible. You can take it from Changi airport also, that will boost your confidence. Just see where you need to get down. It's quite cheap to travel by MRT. Pl note that the the fair is inclusive of 1S$ security, which you can recover after exiting the platform. There are vending machines, where you need nto tender the exact change. the balance is returned automatically.
you must spend a full day at sentosa island. there is a monorail from the last MRT station. fair is S$2.5. On the island visit the singapore panaroma (S$10), carlburg shutting tower for an aerial view of SGP (S$12), underwater world and dolphin lagoon (S$19.8), butterfly garden, orchid garden, the ropeway, merlion (stay till 8 pm for the night view). you may also goto KL which is about 50 minutes by plane and also assessable by road. I stayed in a hotel called 'prescott inn' at the heart of the city' (Ringit 120). KL is also a very reasonably ok city. take visa before hand for singapore and Malaysia for convenience. the photo for singapore visa is quite different, needs a closer up photo. malaysia and SGP visas are given for one year with multiple entry. best option for stay (if not going through package) is youth hostel. there are web sites <www.anywherehotels.com, www.asiarooms.com> which provide cheaper options and can be booked through net. In youth hostels breakfast (continental) is complimentary and a clean AC room can be rented for as much as say Rs. 1000/- . dorm beds for about rs. 200/- . In a tourist place room is not the place where you spend lot of time. It should be clean, should have good linen and a clean bath. so save money for that shopping splurge by cutting the boarding cost. All hotels also offer compli breakfast. use the green channel for exit. changi is very tourist friendly. don't volunteer to take any packet from unknown people. penalty for drug peddling is capital punishment there. you can withdraw local currency through your VISA or Mastercard debit card. It comes handy and at par with the exchange rate. there is no withdrawal charge. -mkd On 10/26/07, mayur bora <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I am arriving at Singapore as a tourist along with my wife on 05 Nov and > we are likely to stay in Peninsula.Excelsior hotel located on Colemon > Street up to 09 Nov. > We would be grateful if any assamnetter currently residing in Singapore > gives us some tips about the must-see places and shopping centres (of course > not very expensive).
