I stayed in a hotel called 'prescott inn' at the heart of the city' (Ringit 120). KL is also a very reasonably ok city. take visa before hand for singapore and Malaysia for convenience. the photo for singapore visa is quite different, needs a closer up photo. malaysia and SGP visas are given for one year with multiple entry. best option for stay (if not going through package) is youth hostel. there are web sites <www.anywherehotels.com, www.asiarooms.com > which provide cheaper options and can be booked through net. In youth hostels breakfast (continental) is complimentary and a clean AC room can be rented for as much as say Rs. 1000/- . dorm beds for about rs. 200/- . In a tourist place room is not the place where you spend lot of time. It should be clean, should have good linen and a clean bath. so save money for that shopping splurge by cutting the boarding cost. All hotels also offer compli breakfast. use the green channel for exit. changi is very tourist friendly. don't volunteer to take any packet from unknown people. penalty for drug peddling is capital punishment there. you can withdraw local currency through your VISA or Mastercard debit card.
