UGC earmarks Rs.205 cr to augment basic research in University

The University Grants Commission, UGC has earmarked 205 crore
rupees to augment basic research in the universities for the year 2007-2008.
As per the recommendations of the task force, set up by Ministry of Human
Resource Development the UGC has launched a number of schemes for encouraging
scientific research in universities. A senior Officer of the UGC said that a
number of schemes, ranging from providing scholarships to enhancing the
infrastructure of universities, have already begun. The programmes include
Faculty Recharge Scheme to fill up of 1,000 vacant positions of professors,
readers and lecturers at various universities.
