The Bottle Brush flowers (Genus Callistemon) - for more information see Australian National Botanic Gardens. http://www.anbg.gov.au/callistemon/index.html
Bottle Brush is a native of Australia. As such I assume that the British has introduce them to India and most probably the tea planters planted it in their gardens in Assam. In that case it was in Assam long before 1950.
