India too had its achievements. Haven't you heard about the Iron
Pillar in Delhi ? Anyway, the issue is that not all cultures develop
at the same rate at all times. Sometimes, we need to borrow ideas from
others. But that doesn't mean that such cultures will always lag
behind. Why India might not have made as many achievements as the west
did in engineering may have to do with our religion Hinduism, at least
partially. It had many inhibiting effects, like in earlier times
people were forbidden to cross the seas. So, that meant there was no
enthusiasm for exploration. But with the advent of modern ideas we
have discarded those superstitions and are marching ahead towards
development. By the way, India had always held the focus of the world.
Which other nation has an ocean named after it ? What do you think
about the decimal system ? It was in India that 0 was first used. Was
this not an achievement that the modern number system which we use is
known as the Hindu-Arabic number system ? In the famous book Cosmos,
the author Carl Sagan has praised ancient India as a highly
mathematical society!! I can give you many more examples. Besides, we
don't get to see much of our earlier Hindu architecture because during
the Mohammedan invasions many such monuments were either destroyed or
converted to mosques. There is even a hypothesis that the Taj Mahal
was actually a Hindu Rajput king's palace. Its name was Tejo Mahalay.
Aren't such monuments achievements in architecture ??

The point is that one needs to come out of the cocoon that surrounds
him and open his eyes. One should broaden one's views and meet people
from diverse cultures(other parts of India, i mean). Then only shall
his constricted notions loosen themselves and he/she shall start
appreciating others.
