If India was the Jewel in the Crown of the British Empire, the remote
North-East of that country is its Hidden Jewel. When the British took pride
in India as the Jewel in the Crown, North East India was considered to hold the
hidden secrets, the gems of that jewel. Besides the rich human resource with
colorful ethnic cultures and abundant natural resources, North-East of India is
the land of Blue Mountains, Green Valleys and Red River.
The second edition of the Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters Newsletter MITRO
is a sincere effort to promote tourism in this region, which unfortunately
still remains unexplored till today. The newsletter contains a variety of
articles by Chondon K. Mohonto, of St. Louis, Rabin Mahanta, Sugar Land, Texas
, Mofid Rahman of Guwahati , Sushanta Kar, of Tinsukia , Mohen Naorem, Imphal,
Manipur and Patricia Mukhim of Shillong among others. FASS is also highlighting
the efforts by Luit Holidays including the recently concluded Koya Kujia
festival at Abhayapuri and the Gypsyfeet, a unique travel venture by Kanchuki
Sharma, a former Microsoft executive who quit her job to dedicate full time.
FASS will strive and continue to promote tourism in North East; we are hoping
that this will be an ongoing process. We propose to distribute this newsletter
to as many people possible. We also encourage you to distribute the newsletter
freely to your friends and colleagues using it as a tool to let them know about
North East India.
