Dear Netters:

The world of global finance is Deutsch to me. I have heard of Merchant Banks but this nomenclature appears to be no longer in vogue.I suppose they are now known as the investment banks. I hear those who work there earn fabulous salaries and of late they have been scandalised as the fat cats.

Although there are retrenchments in these banks in the States and elsewhere, owing to economic growth in Asia and new legislation in West , the Asian financial sector has now openings. They need commercial and private bankers, compliance staff members, risk managers, prime brokers, fund managers and lawyers.

I wonder if our MBA’s qualify for these positions. Are these positions open only to men and women trained exclusively in banking institutions? I any case, the usual form of headhunting applies..

I am sorry I cannot link up this news as the website did not respond. Our netters may try on their own. www.nytimes.com. Go to the business page and search for the article: Still hiring:Global financial firms in Asia. It appeared today (23 August 2011) in the Global edition of the New York Times

It is a Reuters Business report by Denny Thomas, Sarah White and Rachel Armstrong.
The jobs are being created primarily in Hong Kong and Singapore.
