The Unicode, the global consortium of the computing industry, may be considered as the modern printing press in the electronic media; through the Unicode one can write in different languages in the Internet. At present, a silent debate is going on in the use of the Unicode scripts for writing Assamese because the script being offered is called the ‘Bengali’ Script. This brings to the forefront the old sensitive question again, “Are Assamese using the Bengali script for writing?
