GUWAHATI, Sept 16 – Eminent litterateur Dr Lakhmi Nandan Bora will be presented with the Publication Board, Assam’s award for lifetime achievement on October 2. This was announced by the government on Sunday. The award which carries Rs 3 lakh and a citation has been revived after a gap of more than a decade. Instituted in 1973, this award will be presented to Dr Bora at the Guwahati Book Fair that will begin on October 2 at the AEI ground, Chandmari. Education and Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while briefing mediapersons here about the forthcoming 10-day Guwahati Book Fair that would also be celebrating 200 years of printing history in the State, said that the Publication Board, Assam will ensure a unique experience to the book lovers this year. It needs to be mentioned here that the first printed book in the State, the Dharma Pustak published in the year 1812 has been reprinted by the Publication Board commemorating 200 years of printing history. “A rejuvenated Publication Board, Assam has made all arrangements so that all stakeholders including the readers enjoy being part of the book fair that will be celebrated as a literary festival or Sahitya Utsav,” said Sarma. The Kirtan translated into Oriya will be released during the festival. Sarma informed that the Oriya version of the Kirtan will also be released in Orissa. “Ten new writers will be introduced to the readers. Their books will also be released during the festival,” said Sarma adding that a total of 26 new books will be released by the Publication Board. A total of 149 publication houses will participate in the book fair. The fair will also give an opportunity to the book lovers to listen to some of the reputed names in the field of literature including Girish Karnad, Dr Sunil Kothari, K Satchidanandan and others.
