The effort to do audio-visual documentation of the people of Assamese
origin in Myanmar and Bangladesh is really a commendable one. My best
wishes to the project. It's also a great idea to have some kind of
scholarship for students from among these communities to study Assamese in
an educational institution in Assam. However, I have my doubts about the
feasibility of having a whole department to look after issues related to
these communities. After all, due to historical reasons, they are citizens
of another country (or countries) now, just like the Tamil origin people of
Malaysia, the Bihar origin peoples of the West Indies and the
Gujarati-origin people of Kenya (and many other such Indian-origin
communities in many other countries). I will be waiting eagerly to have a
chance to watch the film when it's complete.
