Guwahati, July 15: Exhaustive information on various art forms and cultures of Assam is now just a mouse-click away, thanks to a website, rongghar.org, that was launched here today. Inaugurated by Assamese filmmaker and theatre personality Kulada Kumar Bhattacharjee, the website also offers profiles of noted artistes of the state from different fields and according to the creators, audio-visual firm Rongghar, it would also act as a platform for upcoming artistes to promote their work. “This website will help spread awareness about our rich culture and art tradition among people. While people will be able to know about the contributions of veteran artistes in enriching the rich cultural heritage, the website will also give upcoming artistes a chance to update information about their work. This could help directors planning to cast new faces in their films or theatres to get a rough idea about these artistes by going through their profiles and then contacting them for auditions,” Bhattacharjee said. Speaking on the occasion, Rongghar proprietor Hiranya Kalita said, “We have created the website with the aim to bring together the community associated with the rich and vibrant art and culture scene of our state. We will try to provide vital information on different forms of visual and performing arts and also our folk music and culture. Apart from this, information on works of noted painters, sculptors, musicians, actors, dancers and singers of the state will be available.” “While we have a team of copywriters who specialise in art and culture, the artistes can also create their own profiles and update it from time to time by becoming a member. Members will be initially charged Rs 200 a year and since each of them will have a unique password, they will have the sole authority to edit their own profiles,” Hazarika said.
