Korean cultural team to visit NE next month STAFF Reporter GUWAHATI, July 17 – A delegation from South Korea is going to explore opportunities for cultural exchanges and engagement with Northeastern States including Assam. Seen as a parallel track of cultural diplomacy between the North East and South Korea, the delegation is going to make a 10-day working tour of the region in early August.
The delegation will be led by Nathalie Boseul Shin, who is regarded to be amongst the top five art and culture curators of her country today. Hojun Song, whose latest artwork eventually led to his becoming the first person to send a personal satellite into orbit, will represent the contemporary cutting-edge of South Korean media arts, Boseong Lee, assistant-curator with Total Museum of Contemporary Arts, Seoul, will contribute additional inputs and also round off the delegation as rapporteur. The delegation will spend a few days each on meeting individuals, institutions, and government, in Guwahati, Shillong, and possibly also Dimapur and Kohima, with a mandate to discover, and hopefully also to open up new avenues for a deeper cultural engagement between South Korea and North East in the future. The broad focus will be to have a look at all sectors of creative enterprise, from traditional crafts, music, dance, visual arts, and so on, all the way through the most cutting edge applied technologies, but with a particular tilt of interest towards experimental creative practices and practitioners. According to writer and artist Shankar Barua, who is coordinating the visit on behalf of The Academy of Electronic Arts (www.TheAeA.org), “This will hopefully be just the first of many international cultural connections we will bring to the NE. It will mark the beginning of our new base in the NE as we are presently working to set up a Research and Innovation Ashram in Guwahati, he said. http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/detailsnew.asp?id=jul1813/oth06 (The Assam Tribune,18.07.2013) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From The Academy of Electronic Arts (www.TheAeA.org) Contact: Shankar Barua (Managing Trustee):[email protected] || +91-9868732876, +91-8006606072 Shazeb Shaikh (Executive Trustee) [email protected] || +91 - 98200 17972 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUTH KOREA REACHES OUT TO NORTH EAST INDIA Delegation to explore opportunities for Cultural Exchanges and Engagement ~ A parallel track of cultural diplomacy is to be soon opened between North East India and South Korea, with a small but significant delegation from that country expected to make a 10-day working-tour of the region early-August. According to the writer and artist Mr. Shankar Barua, who is coordinating the visit on behalf of The Academy of Electronic Arts (www.TheAeA.org), "This will hopefully be just the first of many international cultural connections we will bring to the NE, from the wonderful global network we have built up over the years, out of our bases in Delhi and Uttarakhand. And, as such, it will hopefully also mark just the beginning of our now being based in the NE too. In fact, we are presently working to invent a 'Research & Innovation Ashram' in Guwahati, which sets out to finally draw much of our earlier work over the years down to a point, here..... But, that's a different story." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you'd like to have more information about this visit, or to schedule an interview with anyone of the delegation, please call Shankar Barua at +91-8006606072, or emial him at [email protected] _______________________________________________ assam mailing list [email protected] http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
