EMFA condemns attack on television journo
Guwahati: Electronic Media Forum Assam {EMFA} strongly condemns thevandalism
engineered by a section of youths targeting the on dutymedia persons in front
of Guwahati Railway Station on Thursday nightand urges the authority to nab the
culprits immediately.According to the eye witnesses, a section of Cotton
College hostelboarders had arrived on the location in the night hours, where
someauto-drivers were already indulging in clashes with few taxi-drivers,and
the group of Cottonians started the vandalism. Many privatevehicles were
damaged by the students.The hostel boarders also targeted the television
journalists fromvarious news channels, who went to the location following the
clashes,where at least two media persons received serious injuries and
fewcameras got damaged.“We appeal to the authority of prestigious Cotton
College to clarifytheir stand on the issue. Moreover, we urge the police to
take promptactions to identify and bring those hooligans under the law,” said
astatement issued by EMFA, adding that it would continue pursuing for aspecial
protection law for the media persons on duty to deal withsimilar situations.
