Launch of new 24x7 DD channel for the North-Eastern states

It is good news that Doordarshan has launched 7 new 24x7 Satellite Channels for
Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim in
the month of January 2016. Moreover, DD Arun Prabha channel will be launched in
October 2016 for Arunachal and Sikkim also. All these channels are on DTH
platform in Ku Band through INSAT-4B satellite. Surprisingly, the oldest
Doordarshan Kendra of the region - Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati (established in
the year 1985) is yet to get its own 24x7 DD Assam Channel. It has to suffice
with only 4 hours 15 minutes programme daily, exclusively for Assam. After the
launch of separate DD Channels for each state, the DD North East Channel has
automatically become redundant. However, the DD North East Channel continues to
exist. As a result, this Channel is being uplinked from Guwahati with mostly
repeat telecasts of other DD Kendra programmes of northeast and very few
programmes produced in Programme Production Center (PPC) North East, Guwahati.
Assam, which is the leading state of the region in terms of literature, art,
culture, film, sports and man power, is still deprived of its own DD Channel.
DD Assam could provide a platform to the people of the state to showcase their
talents and enhance the knowledge on their home state. It is learnt that DD
Assam or DD Brahmaputra Channel is technically ready and test signals are being
uplinked from this Channel regularly.
But due to reasons unknown to us, the DD Assam Channel is yet to be launched.
Honorable Minister of Information and Broadcasting may look into this matter.
We are all looking forward to a quick resolution of this issue.
All the people of Assam would be grateful for a step taken by the concerned
authorities in this regard.
