Hi Ram:

You have been quiet for a long time. Good to hear from you.

What do YOU think of the capitalized paragraph? Is it possible for a temple
and mosque to stand side by side? After all there is only ONE God, right?
I can understanfd the VHP position if Giriraj Bhai had told us that the
Hindu god is different from the Muslim god, who don't see eye to eye and
thus Hindu prayers would clash with Muslim prayers. But if there is only
ONE God, and Giriraj believes it, why should he object to a mosque next
doors? Unless he is afraid of his 'jaat' or 'ijjat' being in danger of
being polluted by the sounds of Muslim prayers?

But I am not surprised Ram. I have seen people far more intelligent (?) and
'educated' than Giriraj Kishore who think exactly like him. Years ago, when
I assisted the desi community of St. Louis with a design for a community
center at a lot zoned for a place of worship, I suggested to the desi
leadership that we build a community center with a multi-faith chapel,
which could be used by ALL faiths, just like the Air Force Academy chapel
at Denver--a classic piece of modern architecture designed by the then
highly talented Skidmore Owings and Merril firm. I still remeber, vividly,
the silence of the entirely Hindu crowd that greeted me. Of course the idea
got nowhere. Later the project got built as a Mahatma Gandhi center ( a
secular community center) with a much fancier and larger Hindu temple
behind it, replete with a Mahabalipuram style 'gopuram' in shining white.
Needless to say, none of the Sikhs, Muslims or Christians of the
desi-community associate themselves with EITHER facility or their
activities.

What do you think?
