>I was the President of Assam 2002 held in Denver. We were

>scrambling for money to get started with planning of
>the conference. Every
>individual in Colorado gave a loan of a few hundred dollars to get the
>arrangments moving along. We sought donations from gracious individuals
>around the country for Assam 2002. Never did we know that
>AFNA had something like $2000 left to help a struggling
>conference committee! It would have been most helpful

>for us.

***************As AFNA asks for donation in this net, I assume it is a tax exempt organization. Unless that $2000 is in the name of Assam 2000 fund, it will be illegal to give; else IRS will put someone in Jail.

>In my presentation to those who came to Assam 2002, I had
>humbly suggested that we form a non-profit organization
>(or, it could be anything else as well) that will formally act
>as the organizer of the yearly conference. At present,
>there is no continuity

>I think money meant for the
>joint conference should not be held in the name of an individual organization
>such AFNA or UAONA or IFAA, however
>well-intentioned and helpful the organization may be.
>It should be held in a standing conference

>Raij, please read the attached write-up and give this some thought.
***************there is no dearth of Assamese organizations in USA. What we need is a well coordinated effort among the meeting planners, keeping aside their differences and egos! Can it be expected when even people are fighting with the name of the conventions??
