Child sacrifice attempt at Kamakhya, one nabbed

GUWAHATI, June 13: Even when animal sacrifice at the Kamakhya temple creates grave concern among the people, a hair-raising attempt to sacrifice a one-and-a-half-year old human baby by a man who claimed to be her father, was made today at about 12 noon in the temple premises. Amrit Lal Mazumdar alias Satya Das was caught red-handed today by a sweeper when he was trying to cut his child�s neck with a knife. Das, who has been staying in the temple premises for the last 14 days, was seen by the sweeper in a room near the Trust office of the Kamakhya Temple and soon people gathered as he made a hue and cry. He was beaten up by the public and was later arrested by the police. A case has been registered against him in the Jalukbari Police Station. The child, who was injured, has been admitted in the Mahendra Mohan Chaudhury Hospital in the city.
A resident of Maligaon area of the city, Satya Das claimed himself to be a sadhu. He thought that through the sacrifice of his child, he would gain tremendous power.
