AASU bans Fashion TV culture

Guwahati, Jan 2: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today set the mood for the launching of ambitious Asomiya Sena with the vow to cleanse the Assamese society of immoral behaviour and acts.

Launching a scathing attack on the present degradation of society, office bearers of All Guwahati Students Union (AGSU) has warned all those organizations, hotels, sponsors and individuals to stay from any such functions and celebrations which threatens the age old social vanity of Assamese society.

Todays declaration came after AGSU activists supported by members of local women organizations raised objections to New Year celebrations organized by North East Televisions at Hotel Brahmaputra alleging display of unnecessary nudity during trial up to the final show scheduled for live show in the first satellite channel of the region.

Brief altercation between the organizers and the student activists finally led to exchange of blows which left many injured and equipments worth thousands damaged. The channel next day carried footage of injured women models.

Interestingly, AGSU leader Pritam Hazarika today while owning the responsibility for the incident threatened to carry more such act if girls fail to behave and wear decent dresses, If necessary, we will slap those girls who does not give heed to our warnings.

However, Hazarika hastily added that the student organization is not against fashion shows but only urges the organizers not to cross the limit.

Echoing similar sentiments, Labanya Hazarika a leading woman activist who was also present in the press conference came down heavily on the parents who allow their children to wear such revealing outfits. I personally accompanied the AGSU boys to Brahmaputra hotel on that unfortunate Friday afternoon. I was shocked to see young girls in almost nude wearing skimpy dresses intermingling with boys in the green room.

The AGSU leaders also took potshots at state administration for failing to take any adequate steps to stop such immoral shows in spite of receiving instructions from the Chief Minister. Mr Gogoi assured us to prevent such shows in the state, informed Bipul Rabha, a senior AASU leader.

Meanwhile, an all Guwahati womens meeting has been convened on January 6 next to discuss on the matter and take future decision.
