I feel exactly the same way. It is observed that learning mother tongue become the toughest job for the students of English medium schools. Perhaps a sense of neglect towards their mother tongue develops unknowingly. For the familes who are out of their mother land will find no option other than enrolling their children into english or other medium school. The rest can definitely stick to their mother tongue which will ultimately improve both the mother tongue and also the english. Regards

Very rarely one would opt for a vernacular school even in smaller towns. While the importance of English is not disputed what is alarming is the neglect of the mother tongue. Can one be as proficient in his Mother tongue if the medium of instruction in schools is English? Students of vernacular schools however can master the English language as they go for higher education. At least our elders did. Not able to read/write one's mother tongue cannot be a matter of pride. This trend must be arrested and the effort must start at each home. Yahoo!
