>Dear Anjumanara
I think i have entered in this topic 'infiltration of Bangladeshi's'
for discussion lately. But I read your message to Mrinal. You said
that you were brought up in west Garo Hills. You also said that at
night some 'Docaits' or 'thieves' came almost every night. Who knows
how many docaits or thieves entered? And who knows they looted people
immediately after entering with their families to feed them on the
way to Assam and Megahlaya and to borne their on the way expenses?

very thoughtful of anjumnara
but i feel the discussion should not digress from the main topic
we should not go into the details of english vocabulary
instead debating on the essence of the subject would be more productive

Subject: [asom] Deportation of Bangladeshis

Dear Khalek,

In plain English what myself and Mrinal meant is that infiltration is not
alarming. English word 'alamring' has been used. If you consult a English
Dictionary, you would find that 'alarming' is a synonym for appalling,
atrocious, awful, baleful, bloodcurdling, chilling, creepy, creepy-crawly, dire,
direful, dismaying, dread(a), dreaded, dreadful, fearful, fearsome, forbidding,
formidable, frightening, frightful, ghastly, grim, grisly, gruesome,
hair-raising, hairy, horrendous, horrible, horrific, horrifying, macabre,
menacing, minacious, minatory, nightmarish, ominous, petrifying, redoubtable,
scarey, scary, shivery, shuddery, sinister, stupefying, terrible, terrific,
terrifying, threatening, ugly, unnerving etc.

These words definitely doesnot mean that there is no infiltration. I dont think
any one will disagree that there is no illegal migration to Assam. Border
vigilance doesnot fall under my work area and I am also not aware like you what
strategy and time frame is used by the infiltrators. Being an inhabitants of
borderland , I expressed what I have experienced. It is expected that my sharing
should not be distorted or given a different interpretation by the group
members.

I presume you are not from border areas, but you know that infiltration is
taking place. Now my question to you is that how you know that infiltration is
taking place at the time when you are not present in and around the border
sections ? My assumption is you are not in and around border sections 24 hours a
day 7 days a week? Please reflect these questions. You will find many
answers.Try to be little bit pragmatic.

Infiltration/illegal migration is a political issue here rather than a
socio-economic migration or a border issue. Prevention of illegal migration
through proper border vigilance mechanism may solve the problem overnight. But
this will not happen. Because if the problem is solved there will be no 'game'
to play.

If I have understood correctly from both Begum and Talukdar's writing on
infiltrations -- Begum did not see infiltrations in and around Garo
Hills border area while Talukdar did not see same in and around the
border area where he works.

Both segments of border area that Begum and Talukdar refer are very
short compared to the total border length.

Now my question to Begum and Talukdar:
How do you know that both spans (Garo Hills border section and
Talukdar's working section) would be used by illegal immigrants around
the time when you both were present in and around the border sections
respectively?

My assumption is that Begum and Talukdar will not be in and around
border sections 24 hours a day 7 days a week :)

I think illegal immigrants go deep inside to a safe place where they
would not be detected quickly (I would have done that if I were to
immigrate illegally).

Dear Mrinal,
Thanks for your email. I agree with you that infiltration in border
areas is not alarming. I was born and brought up in a border area in
west Garo Hills Meghalaya. Till date I have not seen a single
Bangladeshi taking shelter as illegal migrants.. But of course there are dacoits
and thieves from Bangladesh who visit our area almost every night.
