(Yearly festival!!!)

Hi Kuldeep,You're right. I agree with your idea of having a media focused on
Assam.Further, I feel that the way I responded sounds negative. I am sorry for
creating that confusion. In my e-mail exchange with Mr Muktikam, I realized
that I fail to express what I wanted to say.Let me assert it yet again, What
sounded negative to me was the notion, "Why Bihar and Not Assam". Flood has hit
both the states and Bihar flood got more media attention then Assam, that's
true. But One positive aspect of bringing this to attention can be, " Ok, we
understand what Bihar is going through 'coz we too're suffering" This doesn't
sound wrong. Additionally, This can go more polite & in Gandhian way.If a wound
hurts us, it can hurt others as well, this sensitivity is gradually
disappearing and we all are busy nursing our own problem, without paying much
attention to what others might be going through. When we show acceptance for
all, we too get accepted, that's a universal rule. and it does not require
anyone to be MAHATMA for this.I'll come back with more proper solution in line
with your suggestions, Regards,Swati--- On Tue, 9/9/08, kuladip baro <[EMAIL

think NEGATIVELY if we raise voice for Assam for something.I did not state
that, flood did not create havoc in Bihar. It was indeed a catastrophe. And it
is also true that Assam's Flood didn't get the proper media attention (although
the situation is more or less same as Bihar).I only stated that, due to huge
number of people in Hindi News channels are from Bihar/UP origin the Bihar
flood was highlighted strongly.THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN THAT (I have no grudge
for the said media persons.. they have done wonderful job for their place of
origin!). Everybody has right/tendency to love his place of origin more than
others. Thats why we are posting in assamonline and not Delhionline or
Mumbaionline! Only a true MAHATMTA can love the whole universe equally /
without bias.Thats why i stated that there should be a Media (Paper/News
Channel) manned by Assamese so that our plight is also highlighted. what is
wrong in that?IS IT NEGATIVE THINKING?-Kuladip

while there is no doubt that Assam suffers floods every year, one must however
appreciate the fact that the present Bihar flood has caused widespread
devastation not seen earlier. This does not mean that no notice of Assam's woes
be taken, but let us not always wallow in self pity and foreever suffer from a
prosecution complex.Assam's problems have to be highlighted and solutions found
by Assam's own citizens-expecting outside help only makes one live in a fools
paradise. It made me happy read a news item that Assam's Chief Minister has
asked I.I.T Guwahati to prepare an action plan for tackling Assam's perennial
floods and also to find the loopholes in the reports submitted by the govt
officials in charge of tackling Assam's floods. The news report states that
since crores of rupees are spent on controlling floods every year and the govt
has no way of verifying whether its flood control officials are giving the
correct picture therefore seeking expert opinion is the only way of calling
their bluff and make the utilisation of funds meaningful.I think its a very
good move.Assam's flood problem cannot be treated as a routine annual feature
requiring tried out failed methods. Its high time the best brains are broght in
to suggest and implement innovative effective solutions.
