Dear Friends,
I fail to understand why Mr Helaluddin Ahmed has sent this letter
praising Dr Dhaniram Barua and sending an abstract in this forum. Dr
Barua being a medical prctitioneer, should have sent this to a
medical journal. In present day medicine no claim is authenticated
unless the study is done in a proper way. Clearance from ethics
committee, proper description of methodology, statistical
significance etc. are essential for it. It is dangerous to use any
herb without knowing its active ingredients and their toxicities.
Mere subjective improvement is not enough. One can get such
temporary improvements with many potentially dangerous medicines.
Though I don't deny the possibility of discovering a new drug, this
is not the way. Please don't describe this herb application as a
genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is a vast and developing
science. Human genome project has just been completed with combined
effort of scientists of all over the world after a painstaking
research of many years. Though some progress have been made, a long
way to go before ascertaining the gene's involvement in all the
genetic diseases. Genetic treatment for most of the genetic disease
is a remote possibility.
I request moderators to be careful in allowing such letters in
future.
Thanks.

Yours truly,

Dr J K Goswami

arteries (TGA) with or wihtout ASD or VSD, the common cause of blue
babies is known to all clinicians. The child borne with TGA without
ASD or VSD and without having patency of ductus aortus has incidence
of survival of more than few hours, which is very remote. Atrial
septostomy was a standard procedure for long run survival. Infusion
of prostaglandin in used to keep the PDA patency as short-term
therapy, is also a standard medical practice before taking the
patient for corrective surgical procedure. Mustard procedure was a
standard one at atrial level, which was changed to senning procedure
in different stage of childhood. Switch surgical procedure had
started some years ago and it is now a standard surgical procedure
of TGA and this should be done within 72 hours after child is borne
to obtain good results. However, late complications like stenosis of
pulmonary artery and aorta were

> In conclusion the aim of surgical correction is to achieve
physiological corretion without which survival is very remote. Our
revolutionary therapy given with isolated plant organic compounds
from additional plants fo physiological correction with 100 percent
success and survival is longer that surgical correction without
morbidity.
> We have used a newly developed isolated plant organic compounds
for an eleaven year-old baby with TGA & VSD where signs and symptoms
disappeared and child's condition has improved clinically and
behaving like a normal child. With this discovery, the new ear of
treatment of congenital anomalies with drugs isolated from medicinal
plants has started which is presented here.
> Introduction :
> Cyanosis of lips, finger nails, toes nails, breathlessness,
chronic chest infection with cough and cold and fever, retardation
of mental and physical growth, low exercise tolerance are the common
features of TGA with VSD in late days of childhood. These groups of
patients do not usually survive beyond their teenage as reported. At
this stage, heart-lung transplant has become a standard surgical
procedure.
> History :
> Eleven-year-old girl was brought by parents with following
congenital anomaly to our clinic in month of July 2003. She attended
another two hospitals where she was sent home saying that there is
no surgical or medical treatment available at this stage.

8mm in size with right to left shunt. Her parents were agreed to go
for heart-lung transplant using pig as a donor as our institute is
pioneer in xenotransplantation. However, as a first step, we have
treated her with new plant organic compounds and treatment was
stated from July 5th 2003.

disappear and breathlessness was reduced. Blueness of lips, toes and
fingernails began to disappear and became pink.
> Six day later, she regained her appetite and food intake was
increased. We continued the same treatment and on 29th July, post-
treatment echo with colour Doppler echocardiography was done.

> VSD was measured to be 8 mm in size and right to left shunt was
changed to left to right with normal ventricular function.
> No pulmonary hypertension, which was reported earlier.
> Hemoglobin was reduced by 3mg%
> She could climb up the hill, she could ride bicycle without
exertion.
> Chest infection was disappeared. Heart size reduced by 1 cm. Lung
fields was clear. She puts on weight by 2.5 Kgs in 60 days.
> Clubbing of toes and fingernails were completely disappeared.
Hemoglobin was reduced further to 12 mg%.
> Echocardiography studies with colour Doppler in 60 days therapy,
reveals that there is no PAH. VSD remains with same diameter. Left
to right shunt continues. She has gone back to her school with
unrestricted activities. She is continuing the treatment with plant
organic compounds and she is surviving without heart-lung transplant.
> Discussion :
> Our organic compounds from medicinal plants have reduced the
higher pressure of morphological right ventricle which is functional
left ventricle allowing shunt to reverse where ratio of deoxygenated
and oxygenated blood was changed resulting disappearance of
cyanosis, improvement of liver function and exercise tolerance.
Patients with complex congenital heart disease such as TGA with VSD
do not have incidence of long-term survival. They have a continuous
problems like chest infection, mental retardation, stunted growth,
not doing well in the school, breathlessness, and not gaining
weight. Heart-lung transplant is the only surgical procedure can be
undertaken for these patients with low incidence of survival. High
Pulmonary pressure is the major problem. Reduction of PA pressure
with reversal of shunt are not known till today treated with
conventional therapy such as diuretics, digitalis. This is probably
for the first time treated successfully with
> isolated plant organic compounds. However, long-term results are
yet to be seen with this therapy.

changes.

> 3) She has attended puberty normally.
> 4) She is doing well in school like other children.
> 5) Unrestricted exercises tolerence.
> 6) Total physiological correction of cardiopulmonary system.
