Mr. Jayant Bhuyan, Deputy Director General, Confederation of Indian
Industry, passed away earlier today in Delhi after undergoing a
cardiac surgery. He was 58.
Mr Bhuyan was also the Chief Executive Officer of India Brand Equity
Foundation.
Mr Bhuyan was known for his enormous warmth and sense of humour,
which had earned him a large number of friends.
He joined the Confederation in 1975. During his three decades of
service with CII he held several important positions. Mr Bhuyan had
headed the International Division at CII, besides having held senior
positions in the regions, being the Regional Director of the CII in
the Northern Region and the Western Region. He interacted
extensively with International Bodies, Government of India and State
Governments in promoting Indian Industry and represented CII at
several international conferences.
The CII release deeply acknowledged the significant contributions
made by Mr Bhuyan to the development of Indian Industry and the
development of CII.
Mr Bhuyan was also the Secretary General of ASSOCHAM between
February 2000 and February 2004.
Mr Bhuyan was a Post Graduate in History from St. Stephens College,
University of Delhi.
Since December 2006, he has been the Chief Executive Officer of the
India Brand Equity Foundation, a Ministry of Commerce entity run and
managed by CII.
Mr Bhuyan is survived by his wife Ramola.
