Subject: Grave error by the Hindusthan Times in their report about Assam

Dear Mr. Kakati,

To resolve this quagmire, the Assamese people must own an "All-India" newspaper
published from New Delhi, the Capital. Writing "Letter to the Editor" to the
existing All-India papers will end up in the same frustration that you are
going through. I urge the younger generation to foresake the negative whinings
of the defeatists, adopt a strong positive outlook and go ahead to "establish"
a permanent and widespread "All-India" newspaper with headquarters in Delhi to
project a correct image of Assam at the level of all-India news of other parts
of India.

With warm greetings,
Himendra

It was rather strange that Hindustan Times didn't carry any corrigendum about
the grave error. I sent a letter to the Editor but there was no reply. This
aptly describes how much importance national dailies attach to the region. Had
it been with some other North Indian cities, story would have been totally
different. Even nobody, except one, has reacted in this forum...

Just see how the report came up in Hindustan Times. I was shocked to read about
communal violence in Guwahati. The reporter can't commit this mistake...An
error on the part of the desk people in Delhi where the paper is
finalized..Have a look..

Communal violence in 'Guwahati',
toll hits 15

The army staged flag marches in Guwahati's Udalguri and
Darrang districts on Saturday as the death toll in the communal violence
between the immigrant settlers of Bangladeshi origin, mainly Muslims, and Bodo
tribal members went up to 15.

Eight bodies were recovered from Bhakatgaon and Sonaripara
villages of Udalguri district on Saturday.
