Unfortunately, since IBM does not support a .boo bookreader on 64bit
linux, the option no longer exists for some of us.

I disagree. PDF searching isn't bad, but IMO .BOO searching is far
better. Of course, I use the PDF of the POO, but sometimes I will open
an old .boo of the POO for the search capabilities.
