In addition to all comments made, without going into details as to versions
and apps:

1- seq.numbers are commonly found in col. 1-6, 1-8, 73-80, 76-80
2- the leading part of the seq.no is sometimes a contant!
   eg: col 73-80 PGMA0001, PGMA0002, ... PGMA1234
3- the trailing part may be a version number, eg:
   00001016
   00002016
   00003007
   00004007
4- some have alternate locations, e.g. COB: 1-6 or 73 and up!
5- some depend on RECFM, e.g. CLIST: 1-8 if VB, 73-80 if FB

ISPF cares less (used to) what each line does or does not contain than it
does about implied or declared data type (ASM, COB, CNTL, FORT, etc).
Fortunately ISPF adjusts (non-destructively) from NUMBER ON STD to whatever
it recognizes.
