Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't:

          Macro
&Lab  MVC2 &Target,&Source
&Lab  MVC &Target.(L'&Source),&Source
          MEND

do the same thing without the fuss?  Register notation seems to throw
either one off, but seems like that could be taken care of...
