Please excuse my inexperience, I need an EDIT mask for a floating minus
sign.

Value (hex)        ED/EDMK

00123C  123
00123D -123

00001C  1
00001D -1

Sequence could be:
   LA 1, Pattern+L'Pattern-1 (see below)
   EDMK Pattern,Value
   B  '1110',Positive
   BCTR 1,0
   MVI    '-',0(1)
Positive DS 0H

Don't forget to move the edting pattern into Pattern prior to each execution of 
EDMK.

The editing pattern could be something like

P   DC X'402020202120'

where the '21' forces an entirely zero value to display a '0' in the final 
digit position.
Otherwise, if behaves as a '20' (digit select).
