I have migrated , and maintaining PCRE on z/OS on regular basis.  I do provide
TSO/REXX interface.  All available on CBT file 939.I presented that in RexxLa
symposium, just to encounter animosity from at least one audience member who
had suggested that I should do a standartized version (stadartized by whom?)
For some reason , it looks like that those who at all are onyerested in Regular
Expression on the mainframe and Rexx, are oposing PCRE, for reasons that I do
not understand.I surely hope that Rexxla would bring PCRE to ooRexx.  I do not
understand what is wrong with PCRE.  In any case the zLinux is working with
PCRE and last I've contacted them, they even were working on the JIT version of
PCRE.  So PCRE  is here to stay and it seems to be the standard on Linux
machinesZA

+1 for the back-reference assignments.

I'd be reasonably satisfied with POSIX ERE and back-references optionally
assigned to Rexx variables.
