While I've been on the wrong end of his comments more than once, I  
think it's fair to defend him on two counts:

1) anyone would be protective of their 'baby,' and assp is currently  
very much his baby;

2) his natural language is German, and German can come out sounding  
harsh to an anglophone, due to German's grammar and use of words. In  
this case, it's often his parsing of sentences that makes him seem  
harsh, not the content.

For these reasons alone, I tend to cut him more slack than I might  
others.
