Yes , it is. It is the common way to do what you want to do.
V2 has a hidden command-queue API, which makes it possible to run every
assp-sub with the data you need to be processed
The SNMP API also offers a way to manipulate internal data and
configurations.
How ever, both requires some more Perl knowledge.
And yes - you can manipulate the mysql records externaly - in this case
you have to make sure the records follows assp's internal rules and logic.

Thank you for the reply. We have pretty unique circumstances in that we
need to be able to provide a custom whitelist on a per client level. We
want the clients to be able to whitelist a sender email address, domain or
sender server IP using our application. What would be the best way to
accomplish this? That is why I thought inserting records in the whitelist
mysql DB was best. If we can provide a custom blacklist that would be
great as well. Using the GUI is out of the question because we want the
client to manage their own whitelist/blacklist. Would using the email
interface still be the best?
