($.02 disclaimer)

Most likely its because of the nature of how it is presented.  The site and documentation are unorganized, as is the development.

The actual development and work has been excellent in my opinion, but that is not obvious to the casual observer who looks at the SF site and sees an utter  lack of progress in the CVS.  Currently all the development is being done privately by Fritz - yet this is supposed to be a SF project.  Therefore, the SF "project" does not appear active nor does it reflect the actual work being done.  Sure, the SF site does have newer downloads, but therein lies a discrepancy that is not obvious to understand.  And, with no CVS and no up-to-date SF-attached documentation, the project looks like a mess.

...and how obvious is it to determine where the work is actually be done - and more importantly, why is it being done off-site?  All these details are difficult to determine, and easily overlooked.

+$.02:  The website, documentation desperately needs work, and a face lift - if this project is to gain any additional momentum..  ASSP's main competition is in my opinion SpamAssassin - take a look at the organizational skills around that, and guess why people unfamiliar with either would gravitate to SpamAssassin.

Every IT pro I know that has tried ASSP fall in love with it! I’ve heard horrible reviews about some of those below…

I just can’t understand why ASSP isn’t more popular…

ASSP was not part of this test. It seems that only the following programs were tested:

Annoyance, Antispam, Bayesspam, bmf, Bogofilter, CRM114, dbacl, DSPAM, lfile, qsf, SpamAssassin, SpamBayes, SpamOracle and SpamProbe
