Hi, I have an issue where ASSP will be running fine and then it hangs. CPU usage drops to zero. If I am very patient, ASSP starts running again. The hang time varies all over the place from just a few seconds to several minutes. Under normal load (30,000 - 40,000 Msgs/day) the hang occurs as often as ever 2-3 minutes, but normally every 10 - 15 minutes. When this occurs, ASSP SMTP is not responsive, in that if you connect via telnet, you get a connection that is instantly dropped, with "Connection closed". When the hang occurs, there can be as few as 2 or 3 sessions to as many as 30 or 40 sessions, as observed from the web admin SMTP Connections page on port 55555. Also note that when ASSP SMTP hangs, the web admin SMTP Connections page stops updating. During the hang, all other Windows services run normally, including Imail (except Imail SMTP is idle as there are no deliveries from ASSP). For example, you can POP your mailbox with no problem or run web mail. I saw this problem in both ASSP 1.2.3 and then in ASSP 1.2.5 ( created 10/26/06 4:xx PM).
I have run ASSP in two configurations: 1. On its own IP address servicing only one domain. I have never seen it hang in this setup. 2. Front-ending the Imail server on the same IP address as Imail. ASSP on port 25. Imail on port 225. Imail is restricted to one IP address. I cannot find any port conflicts. I am wondering if there is an issue with Perl. All of the tests were run on the same version, ActivePerl-5.8.8.817-MSWin32-x86-257965.msi. The reason I mention this, I installed and played with SpamAssassin. During the install of one of the SpamAssassin required packages or during the "check my install" portion, a warning was issued indicating that multi-threaded perl was installed and that multi-threaded perl should not be used in a production environment. Is this a known issue for ASSP? I have searched and cannot find anything meaningful. I did check to ensure the Imail SMTP service has 10 more sessions available than ASSP. First I tried 50 sessions on ASSP and 60 sessions on Imail SMTP. I then changed ASSP to 100 sessions and Imail SMTP to 110 sessions. I know there are many Imail servers running ASSP and the admins praise ASSP, so I am assuming that this hang is not normal. Hardware: Dell SC1420 with dual core 2.8 Ghz Pentium, 1 GB memory, lots of free disk space. OS: Windows 2000 SP4 with all the latest hotfixes Perl: ActivePerl-5.8.8.817-MSWin32-x86-257965.msi PS: I am not a Perl guru. I can and have made "minor" script changes. Your help or comments would be appreciated.
