Yours may, but that does not mean that all mail servers are configured to 
reject invalid addresses to their domain(s).  There are probably still many 
admins out there using an "accept all mail" approach with a unknown 
recipient mailbox, just to be sure they don't miss something.  My mail 
server software, and others, has a specific user alias for this usage called 
the "nobody" alias.  So they receive all those messages and get to decide 
what is not garbage.  It has been a cause for discussion many times on their 
support list and obviously the current train of thought is to turn off that 
option, but some still want it.
