Nope. They have zillions of "zombie" machines, so to them, both CPU and bandwidth are free. The return might be low, but if the cost is zero, the IRR* >> infinity! Rance Hall said: - >> Tracing the IP's of the senders reveals that the vast majority of them are from China. > How hard would it be to use some of the geoip libraries out there to block based on country of origin? Not hard, but not generally worthwhile. China only accounts for 9.5% of spamming networks. I have bad news for the Americans on this list: the USA is still by FAR the biggest single source of spam: - Yesterday: 54% of spamming networks were in the USA. See: http://www.spamhaus.org/statistics/countries.lasso Also for November 2006, at http://tqmcube.com/dirty12.php, the USA gets the top four of the top ten spammiest network ranges. China gets positions 7 & 8. The balance comes from Poland. In terms of volume, the USA has dropped from around 50% to less than 30% over the last year. http://tqmcube.com/origins.php This doesn't reflect a reduction of spam from the USA, but rather an increase from other countries, particularly South Korea, China, Russia, and Poland. So, just block all mail from the USA, and cut your spam by a third to half ... Just joking ;-) Enjoy the balance of the weekend, people. * IRR = Internal Rate of Return, a way of measuring how good an investment is.
