Because I don't want to make decisions for users. Once I get the initial
assp ebuild dialed in and working. I will see about adding an optional
USE flag for syslog'ing. I am not sure off hand, but I would assume the
ebuilds dependency to have to be a virtual as there are a variety of
system logging applications on Gentoo.

Plus I have to have things configured to work with the syslogger by
default right after merge/install. So likely a config file or
modifications to an existing one or etc. Quite a bit of work, so that's
a task for another day.

If assp.pl would respect absolute paths outside of it's base directory.
We would not have to modify the assp.pl as we are. I would much rather
create and provide an initial default Gentoo specific assp.cfg. Instead
of having to modify assp.pl directly. Along with the companion
apps/scripts.

Doesn't seem to be an option at this time, hopefully it can and will be
taken into consideration for future releases. I am very pleased to see
past feature requests now implemented. Really eager to use them.
