Why not just preserve the original in a read-only section, and use it as a starting point for completely rewritten docs. Personally, I'd really like to see some kind of standalone documentation, complete with a 'QuickStart' guide for new users, emerge out of this. All of the preserving/linking is very confusing... That is NOT to say that I don't appreciate all of the hard work everyone is putting into this... I just wish I had time to help out - alas, its all I can do to just ready the mail list, and I often don't even have time for that...
