Hello Fritz, I've tried what you suggested, and also tried to add a local
DNS cache, to speed up DNS lookups.

It seems that the only thing that has effect is regenerating the assp.cfg
file from scratch.
All of the other things had little or no effect.

But after regenerating the config file and re-configuring it the results
are amazing!

Before it couldn't deliver a simple 1MB file in 5 minutes, now it takes 30
seconds to deliver a 5MB file!
And CPU utilization remains quite low (around 25% during the delivery).

Encouraged by this success I've tried re-enabling ClamAV attachment
scanning and, surprise, speed doesn't change!

I don't know what to think...what the hell *does* happen when ASSP
recreates its config file????
I'm really very curious, you know, when a miracle happens one really wants
to know *HOW* it does ;-)

Ah, by the way, I've tried to analyze the very same message that yesterday
did fail (the one with a 7zip attachment sent through eudora), and now it
passes. (now I'm using 1.3.3.7)
So is there definitely something wrong in 1.3.3.8 i guess?

I'll let ASSP run for some time before considering the problem resolved,
but the results seem encouraging!

Thank you very much Fritz!

Michele

P.S: I'll keep you updated if there are other problems
