I'm using the 0.39.3 one from oss.netfarm.it and it's working
w/o problems installed as a service; not sure why Alex is
unable to run it that way, all I can say is that using the config
I detailed I had no problems running both clamD and freshclam
as services

that's another solution but I prefer the "services" one, although
scheduling a script may allow to set it up to both, check for
extra signatures and run freshclam to update the standard
ones
