ASSP 2.0.0 supports fully mysql and a lot of other databases.
Many of us run ASSP  2.0.0 already in production. Officially it is in
beta.

But actually I do not  quite understand where your problem is with a
"large" userbase regarding assp 1.x.x
I run several ASSP 1.x without mysql and several thousand users and
several hundred domains. My whitelist contain several hundredthousands
entries. What do you think (from what experience) is the problem in
such an environment. There is no file necessary for users, LDAP is
fully supported, even VRFY can be used to go without LDAP.
